On Intimacy, Desire & the Art of Concealment
There are things we reveal, things we conceal, and rather more things we imagine we have successfully concealed.
Private is a series of mixed-media works exploring eroticism, intimacy, desire, and the curious theatre of being seen.
Fragments of bodies, gestures, and silhouettes emerge from layered surfaces of acrylic and collage, appearing and disappearing within fields of crimson, black, and shadow.
Some figures demand attention. Others seem quite determined to evade it.
Working on an intimate scale, I am interested in the tension between exposure and concealment, between what an image offers and what the imagination insists upon supplying.
The compositions suggest private rooms, interrupted encounters, and moments suspended somewhere between invitation and withdrawal.
Privacy, of course, becomes a rather complicated proposition the moment one hangs something on a wall.
