First Solo Exhibition

NCTV18 | Nantucket, Massachusetts | August 2018

A television station might seem an improbable setting for a painting exhibition. Then again, I’ve never believed art should be overly particular about its address.

In August 2018, I presented STORYBOARDS, my first solo exhibition, at Nantucket Community Television (NCTV18).

Bringing together painting, video, and installation, the exhibition unfolded within the decidedly unconventional setting of a working television studio, a place where images are composed, edited, transmitted, and occasionally persuaded to behave.

For an artist whose interests have long wandered rather indiscreetly between painting, theatre, and film, the setting seemed particularly appropriate.

After all, a television studio has a great deal in common with a theatre. Everyone is managing appearances, someone is inevitably adjusting the lights, and what happens behind the scenes is frequently as interesting as the finished performance.

STORYBOARDS offered an opportunity to bring these visual worlds together, allowing paintings, moving images, and their surroundings to share the stage.
